Gravity Well
This is the game of Gravity Well for Windows from Software Engineering,
Inc. It is a game of interstellar war with an arcade-like interface.
There are several possible executables that may have been distributed
with this archive. They are:
GWELL.EXE - This version does not use the floating point math
co-processor in your computer. It should pretty much work
for anybody.
GWELL_FP.EXE - This version is supposed to use the math-co if
you have one, otherwise work without it. This one may not
work if you do not have a math co-processor. Unfortunately,
I've had some difficulty getting this compiler option to
work reliably and Watcom's technical support isn't all that
great.
GWELL32.EXE - This is the Win32 version. If you are using Windows95
or Window NT, or have Windows 3.11 with Win32s installed, this is
the executable for you. I have a whopper saved game called BIGONE
that I use for testing; there are nearly 300 units in the game.
This executable is dramatically faster than the Watcom 32-bit guys.
System Requirements:
- Microsoft Windows. This has been tested under Windows For
Workgroups, Windows95, and Windows NT Workstation.
- You need a reasonably fast computer but not necessarily a
screamer by today's standards. Try it, if it's too slow
for you then your computer isn't fast enough.
- High resolution video display. The bigger the screen the
better. This game was sort of a personal challenge for
me to make a decent arcade action video game under
Windows that worked well at high resolution. I think I
succeeded.
- A mouse helps. Some controls can't be accessed without it
but you don't really need them anyway.
- A sound board adds to the fun but isn't required.
Installation Instructions:
Copy the files to a directory on your hard drive. There are
no special path or environmental requirements. Just run the
game. Add it to whatever program shell you use however you
normally do it. That usually makes it easier to run again
next time.
This program is ShareWare.
